A quick summary of today’s last minute chores to ensure the animals are set before the snow/ice storm!

Had to wait til today to put out straw because the chickens love to spread it all over the place and I wanted it as fresh as possible before they get locked in the run for the next two days. 🫠🙃

The Feels Like during most of this was 1°, and it’s not supposed to get above freezing for the next 7 days…pray for us. 😂😭😭😭

How to know if the eggs you just found hidden behind your coop are still good. 😂🤦🏻‍♀️🫠

Disclaimer: lots of people use this method, we always have, but a bunch say it doesn’t work, and sometimes floating eggs are still good. Had one of these floated, I’d have taken the risk and cracked it open to do the real test for ya (smell…😂🫠🙃), but, these are all just fine!🙌🏼

I also won’t sell these, they’ve gone into our carton of misfit eggs in the fridge that are for us! So if I do open one and there’s a problem, I’ll just toss it!

I love one good snow per year, as long as I don’t have anywhere I have to be. This year we got major snow the beginning of December and it took a week for the mud to even start to dry up!

Today has been rainy and gross all day but it just turned to snow. 😭 The goats are hiding inside but the chickens have also invaded their pen. I guess some got caught in the snow and took shelter in the closest place! 😂 Hoping it slows down before it’s time to put the animals to bed!

And I have to say, a muddy snow day on our farm is still better than a million sunny days anywhere else. 💜🥰🙌🏼

There’s always one brave deer (we call her Cletus) who doesn’t care at all that the dogs are at the end of their electric fence barking their heads’ off twenty feet away. 😂🫠

I appreciate hunting season but I’m glad to have our deer back in the pasture again! (I may not feel this way when we have crops there, but for now, I love it). 💜

Goats are basically just toddlers throwing a temper tantrum when they aren’t given your full attention. 😂🙃 But screaming Nigerian Dwarf Goats will never not be hilarious to me.

George was mad about the lawn mower, but also that Dad was in the yard and not snuggling him. And I was behind their pen finally replacing tarps with actual wood for winter!

How dare we do anything in their line of sight without giving immediate snuggles!!! 😂🤦🏻‍♀️🐐

This has been a tagline for so much of the last decade in my personal and professional circles.

I spent today resting after a crazy long event day yesterday, but still had some work to get done, so I sat outside in the sun in Family Pasture with my laptop to knock out some client needs.

As I pulled up my beach chair and got settled, I looked over my screen and saw my chickens and geese gathered around doing what they do, and was struck with the realization that THIS was what that tagline was all about.

We (all glory to Jesus), have built a life we absolutely love. My husband and I get to run a thriving business together, I get to work from home whenever I want, and now, I get to work from our pasture on our farm surrounded by our animals. My literal dream life. 🙌🏼🥹

As we head back into our 11th Fall busy season as @seagram.av, I just had to share my gratitude. I am so grateful every day that the Lord has blessed us with a life we love, on land we love, surrounded by family, friends, and clients we love. I am so, so grateful. 💜

Here’s to another great event season, and emails sent while snuggling chickens and geese and goats on @seagramfarm!💜

Another day on the farm! 😂 Had to trap Mario in the chicken coop (got all the chickens out first) and caught him and kicked him out of the pasture (he bullies the chickens).

Here’s clips of that 3 minute ordeal. lol. Got him, but in the meantime, my phone fell in 💩 and then I stepped into the geese’s dunk tank in shoes that do not drain, while being scratched to pieces by a pterodactyl’s nephew.🙃🤗🥴🤦🏻‍♀️

Chicken check-in! The birds are 9-weeks old today!! Still in their Teenage Dinosaur phase but getting so big!

I’m usually pretty good at chicken catching, but like typical redheads, my Cinnamon Queens are intense and refuse to be held down. 😂😍

We still have about two months til we expect any eggs from the first girls, and another two months til they’re all laying, so until then they’re just freeloading nuggets who poop a lot. 😂🙃

Meet the stars of #dailygoats, #QTLucyAndGeorge! 🥰🐐

Ian grew up with goats and HATED them. But we saw these tiny 8-week old kids at the first Amelia Animal Swap we went tomorrow after we moved here and I quickly fell in love with them, and Ian okay’d it, so we took them home!

Lucy’s name by Night One was “Queen Tick Me Off” because she kept trying to escape (threw herself through the electric fence where she promptly got stuck and kept getting shocked and didn’t care).

Some dear friends showed up that night and helped us build a quick pen and brought temporary fencing and we spent the next few weeks just figuring out how to raise goats!

Now, we are obsessed with them. George yells for us every time we are outside but not in his pen. Lucy jumps up for snuggles. Both lovvvveeee hay and sweet feed and kudzu. They follow me around in their yards. They love attention. They’re soooo sweet! I love them so much!!! I’d be totally okay if we just had a ton of goats (but also ours are perfect and apparently that is extremely rare so I’m a little nervous lol).

We do want to breed Lucy in a year or so when she’s ready, but we banded George and he is officially a wether now, so he will NOT be the father lol. He’s also her half brother and while that’s apparently okay, it’s not for me. lol. But, likely next fall or Spring 2027, we will try to breed LucyLu and any other does we get between now and then!! 😍🥰💜

Lucy’s name by Night One was “Queen Tick Me Off” because she kept trying to escape (threw herself through the electric fence where she promptly got stuck and kept getting shocked and didn’t care).

Some dear friends showed up that night and helped us build a quick pen and brought temporary fencing and we spent the next few weeks just figuring out how to raise goats!

Now, we are obsessed with them. George yells for us every time we are outside but not in his pen. Lucy jumps up for snuggles. Both lovvvveeee hay and sweet feed and kudzu. They follow me around in their yards. They love attention. They’re soooo sweet! I love them so much!!! I’d be totally okay if we just had a ton of goats (but also ours are perfect and apparently that is extremely rare so I’m a little nervous lol).

We do want to breed Lucy in a year or so when she’s ready, but we banded George and he is officially a wether now, so he will NOT be the father lol. He’s also her half brother and while that’s apparently okay, it’s not for me. lol. But, likely next fall or Spring 2027, we will try to breed LucyLu and any other does we get between now and then!! 😍🥰💜

Guinea appreciation post!

Many people hate guinea fowl. Many have never heard of them. I was always told they were loud and dumb. But they eat up to 4,000 (Four. Thousand!!!) ticks per day, so I knew I wanted some.

Our dear friends at @jirehhillhomestead brought two boys over right after we moved in, and we named them Mario & Luigi. They were used to free ranging, but it was a new property. They came by a couple times a day for the first few days as we developed a routine of giving them scratch feed to teach them where home was. We were still in busy season with our AV company, so we missed a couple check ins. One day they didn’t come by. Then a few days passed and we feared the worst. Then Mario showed up one morning, looking fairly disheveled, and kinda lost. We waited and waited for Luigi to come back, but he never did. 💔😭 Our first farm loss. 💔😭

Mario kept hanging around more often, it was clear he was really lonely. We didn’t have a chicken coop and weren’t ready for chickens yet, so we couldn’t just put him in with other birds. I posted on the local chicken group asking for a guinea for my lonely one, and an amazing human offered me one of hers. She thought it was a hen but wasn’t sure. I picked up Princess Peach the next day, and hoped they’d integrate quickly. As soon as I sat the crate in the yard, Mario stood guard over her. We let them into the temporary goat run we had up in an electric fence, and that’s where they stayed for 3 days. She laid an egg every single day (confirming it’s a girl!). I got to witness the whole process and how Mario stood guard as she laid. It was so cute!!!

They eventually realized they could fly over the fence and I didn’t try to stop them. They have been free ranging for a couple months now, and are always together. They are LOUD when they want to be, but it’s always for a purpose.

Mario has alerted me to the garage being left open (twice 🤦🏻‍♀️) while the chicks were in there, and once alerted me that Lucy had escaped her fence. Now if he is screaming, I promptly go outside to check on everyone. He’s the world’s best guard dog.

They are SO much fun. Ignore the haters. Get some guineas. 😍🥰🙌🏼 #guineafowl
